The department of Environment and Natural Resources, Government of the NWT, provides an annual contract to MÉTCOR to equip and supply a trained forest-fire fighting crew for seasonal work in the NWT.
MÉTCOR ensures these employees fulfill all aspects of the contract with care and professionalism.
Recently we signed an agreement with the Department to provide services for the next 3 years (2006 to 2008) with an option on a further 2 years. Every effort is made to recruit members and Metis for the fire crew, but the most important element is to ensure everyone’s safety by hiring and retaining experienced fire crews. Our current crew chief is John Koyczan, who has been in the position since 2005. The contract requires that a minimum number of the crew have experience. We are always interested in adding alternate crew members who can fill-in for our permanent crew as needed. Alternates are the first source of recruiting for full-time replacement crew members.
